**KFCA - EVENING USE OF MEMORIAL FIELD** **Last Updated Date:** 07/08/2014 **Adoption Date:** 07/11/2006 The following policy is a guideline for use requirements/restrictions for Memorial Field’s nighttime use.  The policy should be reviewed every two year period by the director of athletics, high school principal and superintendent, with any updates or adjustments requiring approval of the superintendent and School Committee.  1. Except as provided below, evening events where lights are required will only be for school events occurring during the fall athletic season and spring athletic season.  2. All varsity football home games will be played at night with the exception of the Thanksgiving Day game.  Any sub-varsity football events played after daylight savings may use the lights during the second half of their games without admission being charged.  3. Sports other than football will be allowed a maximum of two games scheduled on Memorial Field for night use during the regular season.  These sports include boys soccer, girls soccer and field hockey during the fall; boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse during the spring. 1. These teams may exceed the maximum if South Hadley High School is hosting a district tournament game that is not part of the regular season schedule. 2. The athletic director may waive this policy in case of emergency in completing the schedule for rainouts and postponed games. 4. Admission for all games will be determined by the athletic director and high school principal upon approval of the superintendent.  5. The Recreation Department will be permitted to hold two football events at night on Memorial Field during each fall season.  The Recreation Department will absorb all responsibility for expenses that occur during those games including the costs of the lights with no obligation to the School Department. 6. The cost of using the fields at night must be borne in the budgets of each school group, including athletic teams.  South Hadley High School organizations that wish to hold evening activities on the football field may apply to the administration for permission to conduct an event.  They must assume all costs for use of the lights. 7. All rules and regulations governing students, fans and participants will govern night games as they do all other athletic contests and school events. 8. The athletic director will determine the number of personnel necessary to conduct night events both for South Hadley athletic teams and other South Hadley High School activities or Recreation Department sponsored events. 9. South Hadley teams are permitted one practice session under the lights per week to prepare for upcoming games and events that will be conducted under the lights. The high school band may schedule two evening practices during the fall.  Games and practices will ordinarily be scheduled to end by 9:30 p.m. at the latest.
