**JFABB-R - FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS**

1. A student applying to live in South Hadley with a host family and attend South Hadley High School must be sponsored by an approved CSIET (Council on Standards for International Educational Travel) agency.
2. Applications will not be accepted after May 15 for the next academic year.
3. The foreign student should possess good grades and be of sound character. If at any time South Hadley High School feels that the student is not working up to his/her potential, or is a discipline problem, the student may be removed from South Hadley High School after consultation with the host family and the sponsoring agency.
4. South Hadley High School will accept foreign students on a space available per grade basis. The principal will make recommendations to the superintendent regarding which students should be accepted. The superintendent will make the final determination on which students will be admitted to South Hadley High School.
5. It is preferred that the host family have a son or daughter at South Hadley High School.
6. The foreign student agency or program will be given preference if that program affords the opportunity for a host family youngster or other youngster in the high school to visit the home country of the foreign student at no expense to the high school or the family, outside of spending money and transportation.
7. Foreign students must have reading, writing, and speaking language knowledge of English.
8. South Hadley High School will not be able to give extra services, i.e., tutorial, to foreign students. The student will only be accepted as a regular education student with no special education provided.
9. Students wishing to participate in extra-curricular activities will be subject to all fees normally paid by South Hadley High School students.
10. Students will be given a full orientation by the host family and sponsoring agency.
11. All necessary paperwork and forms will be handled by the sponsoring agency; this includes visas immigration and naturalization forms, athletic eligibility forms, and any other necessary documentation.
