**IIB - CLASS SIZE** **Last Updated Date:** 04/29/2014 **Adoption Date:** 01/10/2006 The School Committee is aware that class size impacts effective teaching and student learning. It, therefore, directs the superintendent to work with principals in establishing a reasonable and equitable class enrollment for each teacher. The School Committee understands that achieving this goal is dependent upon the financial ability of the school system. The administration will consider the impact on student learning in determining the size of various classes. As general guidelines for implementing this policy, the School Committee establishes the following range for class sizes in regular classrooms at each grade level—             Grade Level                Desirable                     Target                          Maximum                                                 Class Size                    Class Size                    Class Size             Early Childhood             (EC) - Grade 1            18                                20                                22             Grades 2 - 4                20                                22                                25 Grades 5 - 8                23                                25                                28 Grades 9 - 12           Average class sizes of 25, subject to instructional and facility considerations such as number of work stations.
