**IHB-R - DISTRICT CURRICULUM ACCOMMODATION PLAN** **Last Updated Date:** 04/29/2014 **Adoption Date:** 01/10/2006 Below is a list of curriculum, assessment and behavioral accommodations that teachers may use to help different students succeed academically.  Prior to referral for a Section 504 Plan or an Individual Education Plan (IEP), teachers may adopt any of these accommodations.  When a student has a Section 504 Plan or an IEP, teachers are responsible for implementing the accommodations called for in those plans. **EXAMPLES OF ACCOMMODATIONS** 1. Teachers provide students with materials and instruction to develop organizational skills, such as daily assignment books, study guides, use of graphic organizers and use of notes. 2. Teachers provide students with alternative textbooks and materials. 3. Teachers provide materials to address specific learning styles, including written assignments on the blackboard, pre-printed notes, large-print materials, typed handouts and worksheets, books on tape/cd, and access to computers. 4. Teachers make physical changes in the learning environment such as preferential seating, use of learning centers, and changes in the level of lighting. 5. Teachers reduce distractions by allowing use of headphones and restricting unorganized movements. 6. Teachers use alternative grading methods. 7. Teachers allow additional time for completing assignments, tests, reports and projects. 8. Teachers permit use of assistive technology, including computers, listening stations and picture boards. 9. Teachers develop individual behavior plans for specific students. This list is not exhaustive.  IEP and Section 504 Teams will determine which accommodations must be made, and the settings and times at which they will be made.  Teachers must plan instruction that meets the requirements of the IEP and Section 504 Plan.  Accommodations called for in an IEP and Section 504 Plan are to go into effect immediately following agreement on the plan, unless the plan calls for a different date for implementation.
