**GDA - SUPPORT STAFF POSITIONS** **Last Updated Date:** 03/25/2014 **Adoption Date:** 10/10/2006 The School Committee recognizes and functions on the belief that its support staff members are important and necessary to the total educational process. Education is a cooperative enterprise in which all employees of the school system must participate intelligently and effectively for the benefit of the children. The school system may employ support staff members in positions that function to support the educational program.  Examples include but are not limited to paraprofessionals, custodians, cafeteria workers, drivers, crossing guards, and clerical workers. All support staff positions will be established initially by the School Committee. In each case, the superintendent will submit for the Committee's consideration and action a job description or job specifications for the position. Although positions may remain temporarily unfilled, or the number of persons holding the same type of position reduced in the event of de-staffing requirements, only the Committee may abolish a position it has created.
