Principals shall be employed by the superintendent of schools under individual contracts of employment. Within the budgetary authority of the School Committee, the superintendent will determine the level of compensation. Benefit packages offered to principals will be subject to School Committee approval.
Contracts issued to principals will be up to three years in length, and may be reissued by the superintendent. The superintendent has the authority to make compensation adjustments subject to the approved budget guidelines established by the School Committee.
As a condition of employment, each principal must maintain current certification, adhere to the policies and goals of the School Committee and the directives of the superintendent, and annually before May 1 must submit, with the school council, the educational goals and school improvement plan for the school building(s) under his/her direction.
