**DFDA - PASSES FOR ADMISSION TO ATHLETIC EVENTS**
**Last Updated Date:** 02/25/2014
**Adoption Date:** 01/10/2006
The School Committee shall regularly set the criteria and rates for free, reduced and regular admission to athletic events, upon the advice of the athletic director. The South Hadley School Committee supports the athletic program as a part of well-rounded education. The Committee encourages the participation of students, parents, families, staff and community members as spectators at athletic events. Given the constraints of public funding for the schools, the maintenance of the athletic program depends significantly on the revenue generated by gate receipts. Therefore, the School Committee will establish pricing and guidelines for general, free and reduced admission to athletic contests.
#### Free Admission Passes
Free admission passes shall be provided only to a limited number of persons who work at athletic events in direct support to the team and designated student activities.
1. Up to 10 persons designated by the band director will be allowed free admission to football games to give logistical support to the Tiger Pride Marching Band.
2. Up to ten persons designated by the president of the Booster Association of South Hadley (BASH) will be allowed free admission to games to sell programs and raffle tickets or to conduct other fund raising activities.
3. Up to ten students designated and supervised by the class advisor will be allowed free admission to games in order to work at the concession stand, which is the fund raiser for the senior class.
4. A free pass for admission will be given to the public address announcer and the three people who work the side lines at football games, the so called “chain gang.”
5. The only other passes that will be granted are those for people who directly assist the team, such as managers, emergency technicians, and others specifically designated by the principal.
In advance of each athletic season, the band director, BASH president, senior class advisor, and athletic director will submit in writing to the high school principal the number of passes needed for volunteer workers to carry out specified work assignments at home games. Written requests for additional passes will be considered when special circumstances warrant the need for extra volunteer workers. Such requests must be submitted in advance and are subject to approval by the high school principal, based on appropriate justification of the need for additional volunteers.
#### Passes for Senior Citizens
Upon application to the superintendent or his/her designee and upon producing proof of age or retirement, South Hadley residents who are 65 years of age or older or who are retired will be given free passes to South Hadley athletic events for their personal use. Single game admissions for senior citizens will be sold for one dollar at the gate for those who have not applied for passes under this policy.
#### Reduced Price Annual Passes
To encourage as many faculty and staff members as possible to attend athletic events, a yearly pass to home athletic games will be sold at a cost which is less than the charge for individual tickets. The cost for the annual reduced price pass shall be established yearly as part of the regular budgeting process for the Athletic Revolving Fund.
