**BHA - COMMUNICATIONS TO THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE** **Last Updated Date:** 11/26/2013 **Adoption Date:** 01/10/2006 School Committee Correspondence The School Committee welcomes written communications from members of the community regarding the programs and services provided by the South Hadley Public Schools. To facilitate the Committee's understanding of the ideas and concerns submitted by the public, the following procedures are adopted: 1. All correspondence addressed to the "School Committee" or the "School Committee chairperson" shall be opened by the executive assistant to the superintendent/School Committee. Copies of the written correspondence shall be made for and distributed to each member of the Committee and the superintendent of schools. 2. Correspondence addressed personally to a specific member of the School Committee shall remain unopened by the executive assistant and shall be directed to the addressee. The Committee member in receipt of such correspondence shall be responsible for communicating information relevant to the Committee as a whole to his/her colleagues. 3. The School Committee, individually and collectively, shall refer all suggestions, criticisms, and complaints called to its attention to the superintendent for study, recommendation, or appropriate action. 4. The receipt of written communications by the School Committee shall be acknowledged during the portion of the agenda designated for this purpose. Items arising from correspondence may be placed on a School Committee agenda by the chairperson or as deemed appropriate by the Committee or superintendent.
