**BEBA - INFORMAL MEETINGS** **Last Updated Date:** 11/26/2013 **Adoption Date:** 01/10/2006 An informal meeting of the School Committee is one at which no quorum is required and no formal action may be taken. An informal meeting may be called for a number of reasons: 1. To listen to a presentation by an individual or a group. 2. To meet with an individual or a group on an informal basis. 3. To discuss a new and complex problem at length. 4. To gain additional perspective before taking action on a complicated and difficult problem. An informal meeting is set up to provide School Committee members with an opportunity of meeting in a "discussion setting." This does not mean than an informal meeting should be a secret or covert meeting. Notice of an informal meeting should be announced and posted in the same manner as regular and special meetings. The superintendent should be a participant in any informal meetings of the School Committee. **Policy References:** M.G.L. 30A: 18-25
