A School Committee meeting to be "official" must be held within the geographic boundaries of the Town of South Hadley.
The business of a School Committee is conducted at its official meetings. It is only at a duly called and advertised meeting that its members can act as a committee or exercise any of their powers. Between meetings the superintendent is the highest authority of the school system, but s/he is obliged to act in conformity with policies established by the Committee and to exercise only that authority delegated to him/her. When it is in session, the powers of a School Committee are extensive. Everything a committee does is accomplished in its meetings.
Except in an emergency, a notice of every meeting of the School Committee shall be filed with the town clerk and posted on the principal official bulletin board of the town at least 48 hours (not including Saturday, Sunday and legal holidays) prior to such meeting.
From September through June, the School Committee will normally hold one
School Committee meeting per month although may opt to not do so during any month where there is insufficient business. During July and August, meetings will normally not be scheduled but may be convened if deemed necessary.
All meetings shall be open to the public and press unless the Committee votes to go into executive session.
